Electronic Locks will not function during power cuts: First and foremost, electronic locks predominantly run on batteries that have a minimum life of two years. The batteries used can be found in any hardware shop, it’s like changing the batteries of your TV remote. In addition to this, electronic locks have a manual mechanical key override too.
You may get locked-in, in case of a fire at home: I think I did not make myself clear by saying that we have made giant leaps in terms of technological advancement. Electronic locks have advanced sensors that detect fire and notify the owners. Some companies offer a complete home security package where your digital lock, fire protection system and sensors are in sync.
They are bulky: No, they are not. You don’t have to compromise your immaculate interior designing just to reap benefits of an electronic lock. In fact, there is such surplus of electronic locks that you can get any design and color you desire. They come in different body styles, finishes and trims to blend with one’s home décor.
Electronic Locks can be hacked: This is the most common myth and I do not blame you for believing it. Pop culture has in general made an absolute joke of advanced security that will take much explaining to unlearn. Electronic locks offer multiple modes of authentication and are extremely difficult to hack. Many companies are programming the locks in such a way that they require periodic changes to the password or PIN.
If anything happens to my smartphone I will lose access to my smart lock: This is a tricky one. The selling point of electronic locks is that they can be accessed from your phone and that’s what makes them so efficient! But why assume the converse? The phone connectivity is just a feature and not the entire personality of electronic locks! Most keyless systems allow you to log in from different devices and change the access codes.
